What to build

Update the News source catalog for quality (decided in a grilling session; see GLOSSARY.md for terms).

Add (all on by default):

Source Feed Language
Techmeme https://www.techmeme.com/feed.xml en
Lobsters https://lobste.rs/rss en
The Decoder https://the-decoder.de/feed/ de
Simon Willison https://simonwillison.net/atom/entries/ en

Change

  • Hacker News: switch the feed to https://hnrss.org/frontpage?points=150 (only well-voted front-page stories).
  • Turn off by default, but keep in the catalog: t3n, ComputerBase, TechCrunch, The Verge.
  • heise Security and heise Developer: describe them as a subset of heise online (turn heise online off to use them).

Remove: WIRED, Engadget.

Default-on News set afterwards: heise online, Golem, Ars Technica, Hacker News, Techmeme, Lobsters, The Decoder, Simon Willison.

Update the source list in the README to match.

Acceptance criteria

  • The catalog matches the lists above
  • On an existing install, the four new Sources appear enabled after the update
  • WIRED and Engadget are gone from the Sources tab, and nothing breaks if they were enabled before
  • The live feed test passes for every News source
  • The README source table matches the catalog
